My List includes a Kitchen Cousin

The List – the hypothetical list of (usually famous) people that  you would get a free pass from your spouse to cheat with. Usually the list is made up of people you don’t know, and will most likely never run into on a daily basis, therefore making it safe to assume it won’t happen. I’m assuming that is probably why the practice is so accepted among spouses.

For most people, their lists exist only in their head – a person added here and there over time, and some removed when they fall out of favor. “He’s/She’s on my list” is a phrase I’ve heard (and said) a few times while watching a movie or TV show. Or, conversely, “he’s off my list”. Some people’s lists are actually written down. Some even laminate their list, and carry it around in their wallet. The show Friends actually had an episode where Ross met one of the people on his list (Isabella Rosselini), but since she had recently been replaced on said list, Ross wasn’t able to “seal the deal”.

You can check out that video here

It makes me laugh every time.

For the most part, these lists are reminders that we haven’t stopped being interested in the opposite sex just because we are married. Granted, the chances of meeting anyone from your list are slim-to-none. The chances of actually hooking up with them, even slimmer.  And of course, the chances of your spouse actually looking the other way if it were to happen are the most slim of all.

My list has been re-written a few times in my head. And for me, it’s not just about a tumble in the sack – a few people on my list are people I just want to have dinner with – or spend the day sitting on the beach, drinks in hand, talking about life and love and the future. For example, Billy Joel is one of my very favorite musicians. He has been on my list forever. But I don’t want to sleep with him. I just want to talk to him. For a very long time. I think he would be so interesting – I love the way he writes his music/lyrics, and I assume he is just as fascinating to talk to in real life. I know that’s not really cheating, but I think it would hurt my husband’s feelings when I tell him he isn’t allowed to join Billy and me for our little rendezvous. And that would be just as bad in my book because I know his feelings would be hurt. Besides, who has a list of people they want to be friends with? Okay, I admit, I do. It includes P!nk, Jennifer Aniston and Sabrina Soto. There are many more on that list, but this isn’t about my imaginary BFF list!

So, anyway, my list is short. I have most of them on this Pinterest Board. I call that board “Men I Like to Look At”. And oh boy, do I ever!

High on my list is George Clooney.

OMG – I just love that smile!

He is charming and smart and funny and I know we would hit it off, well, because I am charming and funny and smart. He’s also beautiful. And all together, that makes him smoking hot.

Here are a few of my other favorites. Can you sense a pattern? Tall, dark, handsome, smoldering…

Oh Johnny!

Paul Newman – he was the epitome of what a man should be – especially as a husband.

My first crush – Elvis

Gerard Butler – wow

(okay, side note… doesn’t this picture almost look like he’s on the toilet?)

Anthony Carrino – Kitchen Cousins

Ahhhh… yes, Anthony Carrino… that brings me back to the reason I am writing this post.

Yesterday, I drove an hour south to meet the cousins from Kitchen Cousins. Anthony Carrino and John Colanari were speaking at the Broward County Convention Center at the Home and Remodeling Show. I had convinced my 18 year old daughter to come with me, as my husband had to work. She doesn’t watch HGTV, so she had no idea who I was talking about when I ran around babbling about the Cousins being in town. Yes, I was like a like a 13 year old in my excitement. Tori got quite a kick out of seeing her usually low-key mom all amped up about meeting these guys!

As soon as we got there, I have to admit that I didn’t even walk around the rest of the show, I just made a beeline for the stage they would be on, and sat in the front seat about 30 minutes early. Yes, I’m a dork.

When John and Anthony came on stage, they were well spoken, funny and informative – first talking about how they started their business, and then getting onto TV as the Kitchen Cousins, then taking questions from the audience. I found myself completely tongue tied, and couldn’t get up the courage to ask a question. At one point, Anthony was literally an inch away from me when he walked over to give a woman behind me the microphone to ask her question. I had to restrain myself from reaching over to bite grab touch him.

Yep, he was looking right at me!

I was impressed that they seemed so down to earth, and not at all snooty. They are also much better looking in person, which I didn’t think possible. Anthony has this way about him, which I haven’t been able to put into words, that makes you want to adopt him into your group of friends. He’s kind of bashful, endearing… it makes you want to be his buddy – the kind you sit on a deck with, having some beers, on a warm summer night, talking about the old days in the neighborhood. Even my husband agrees that he and John seem like good guys to hang out with. And it was nice to see that it wasn’t just a vibe that was cultivated for their TV show, they seemed just that way in person too.

Look at those arms! Eye candy – lots of eye candy…

At the end of their presentation, they went over to a table to sign autographs and take pictures. I was finally able to ask them the two questions I had been trying to get out, and then took pictures of them with my daughter. She is now a big fan of them too, especially Anthony.

Tori with John and Anthony

But here’s the thing about Lists… When you finally do meet someone that you have on your list, it makes you realize all that you have waiting at home for you. Not that it wasn’t terrific to meet Anthony in person, but it made me realize that he’s just a guy, no different that any one else that I could meet on the street. He might be good looking, and sexy, but no more than my husband. I found myself thinking that I would love it if they were our neighbors and could have them over for BBQ’s sometime, but that’s the extent of it.

On the other hand, my husband is tall, dark and handsome. Incredibly smart – brilliant actually. He’s funny, and laid back. Those dimples just kill me. He’s an amazing father to our kids. He’s kind and gentle. Every kid we know, loves him. Animals too. And he puts up with my crap, which is more than I can imagine that anyone on my “list” would do 🙂

The only one on my real “list”

So, although I can keep my list in my head, or even write it down and carry it in my wallet,  I know that there isn’t a guy on earth that could ever compare to the man I promised to love for the rest of our lives.

Do you have a list? Is it written down somewhere, or do you just keep a running list in your head? Does your spouse have one too? Mine does – and it makes I’m super glad that Jessica Alba lives on the other coast. LOL!

Have a great day!

UPDATE: Edgar, my husband, read this post and thought I would be hurting John’s feelings since I didn’t say how awesome he is too… in my defense, I didn’t want to gloat too much about him since he is newly engaged. I feel a little bad fawning all over him – I’m pretty sure his fiancé wouldn’t like it. But, he was pretty awesome too – loved his sneakers.

Every other picture of him is of the side of his face 😦

I wasn’t kidding… even the side of his face is cute!

Great things are happening around here lately… First, Lindsey from Better After stopped by and left a comment on the chair I re-upholstered. Well, a little confession is necessary here: I did send her the link to it because I was hoping she would use it for her blog, but she didn’t. But, she was kind enough to leave a comment though, which I thought was frickin’ amazing! I did a little happy dance – it was like blogland royalty stopping by to have tea, err.. or something equally exciting.

Then today, Kate from Centsational Girl pinned my chair on Pinterest… you know, this one, the one that brought many of you to my blog 🙂

Well, that just about sent me to the moon! I know that a bazillion pins get pinned all the time, but they don’t get pinned by your blog idol! I woke up the husband to tell him. I was so excited, it couldn’t wait til morning! He managed a “that’s really great, honey” before he rolled over and fell back to sleep immediately. Kate’s blog is the first one I found when I started to read blogs, and it’s still my favorite. That girl has me addicted to spray paint – and she seems like she’s a genuinely nice person too. I know that she probably has no idea who I am, but it doesn’t matter. I am still psyched that she liked it!

But then, after I posted a quick update to Facebook about that, I logged into Pinterest and found out that EMILY HENDERSON from Secrets of a Stylist on HGTV pinned it too!! Holy cannoli!!  She wasn’t so blown away by the concept/idea, I’m assuming it’s because she doesn’t have to be as thrifty as I am, but she commented that she’d try it if she was desperate. Ha! It still made me smile – and wake up my husband – again – to tell him.

I’m as giddy as a school girl… it’s the little things that make me happy 🙂

Hope you had something awesome happen to you today!

The Liebster Blog Award

Yesterday, in the midst of being downright crabby and stressed out about everything, my phone chimed to let me know that I had an email. When I opened the email, it was a notification about a comment made on my “about me” page, and this is the body of the text…

“I love reading your blog! You do all of the projects I wish I had the time to do! Sadly there aren’t enough hours in the day and with a baby and a toddler I have to pick projects that won’t result in toddler fingerprints in paint through the house or anything they can get into (sadly most of the projects I want to do) so I am living vicariously through your blog! Thank you for sharing (I also nominated you for a Liebster award.)”

It was from Kirstin over at The Diligent Housewife. What?! Immediately, my grouchy mood broke and I was smiling, and it was a big one. You know, that kind of smile that makes people wonder what you are up to. How awesome is that?  I’m beyond touched that she nominated me. Go check out her blog – I love how down to earth and friendly she seems.

Let me explain what a Liebster Award is, because I had no idea what it was before I Googled it.

“Liebster is a German word, meaning dearest or beloved, but it can also mean favourite.  The idea behind the Liebster Blog Award is that it is given to bloggers who have less than 200 followers in order to create new connections and bring attention to these wonderful blogs.”
And, here’s the to-do list of any Liebster award recipient:

1. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
2. Reveal your top 5 picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
3. Post the award on your blog
4. Bask in the love from the most supportive people on the Internet – other bloggers.
5. And best of all – have fun and spread the karma!

So, here are my top five picks!

1. Goodbye Whoopee Pie – perhaps the funniest blog about finding yourself and then, loving what you find. Oh, and she has a cat named Charlie Babbitt, loves glitter and googly eyes, and when I read what she writes, I wish that she lived next door to me so we could discuss it all over coffee. You will love her and want to be her best friend, I promise.

2. Good day, Sunshine – okay, I admit that I only ever found this blog because the writer/blogger has the same name as me – Eliesa. Do you know how rare that is? Crazy rare. (she found me on Pinterest – it’s weird to see that “Eliesa pinned “x” to “y” board, and it’s not me! Is this how all the Jennifers and Christines feel when they see their name too??) It might have started that way, but I have gone back because there is such a sweetness about her, and I love their pictures of their newlywed life, and they seem so darn HAPPY. It’s infectious.

3. Pig and Paint – I love this blog because she tackles just as many projects as I do, however, she takes much better pictures. Cooking, painting, sewing… she’s a jack of all trades! And I just love the name of her blog too – makes me think of a paint covered pig, running around a little farm, making a mess. Kind of how I feel sometimes 🙂

4. Real Food For Less – As a person who needs to lose a few, okay, a lot of pounds, this blog is inspiring for me. Wendy has lost 120 pounds, the healthy way – eating well and lots of exercise. She includes ideas for healthy snacks, encouragement and isn’t preachy. And she’s super nice too!

5. Design Pill Blog – Diana is a createaholic – sounds like a girl after my own heart! She has a degree in Interior Design and she’s just starting her own company. I think she might have to come on over and help me figure out my design mess! And I can’t wait to find out what her Naughty Banana page is going to be about…

I hope you stop by and say hi to my nominees, I know it would make their day!

Thanks again for stopping by, checking out my blog and leaving comments and asking questions. They make me happy, and I love knowing that people are reading my blog and liking it!

Photo Friday – My Family

I thought I’d use Photo Friday to introduce you to my family.

This is my husband. He is the best husband/best friend/father a person could ask for, and everyday I thank God for sending him into our lives. He is crazy smart, funny when he doesn’t even mean to be, supportive, patient and best of all, he’s the biggest “sucker” for our kids.

The Husband

A few weeks ago, I bought a new camera, and I’ve been busy practicing with it, much to the dismay of my kids. These first two are from a trip to Panera. Notice how much he wants to participate in the first one?

Ahhh... that's better! I love that face!

Every year, I take Christmas Pictures for the holiday cards, and the out-takes are always the ones that make me laugh and display the kid’s personalities the best. This one was my favorite this year.

These kids make me so proud, every single day.

I would have added more of my daughter, but she is going to have to approve which pics I can share first 🙂

And these are our other “kids”. With exception to the birds, all of our furry friends have been rescued, and all of them are mutts – just like us 🙂

Our Old Man

Our studious one… hehe…

Charlie... he's such a good sport!

This one is my favorite – but don’t tell the others.

Brownie - I love his grey beard

This is the trouble maker…

Our only female pet - Gracie

And this one is feared at all vet’s offices and clinics around town, although at home, he’s such a sweetheart. He makes me laugh more than the other animals combined 🙂

The King - Elvis

We just adopted Gus a few months ago. I’m not sure what we were thinking bringing home another puppy, but he’s such a lovable little dude. I just wish he would stop licking me all the time – ick! 😛

And.. the newest member - Gus

And finally, the birds…

This one is Hurley - just imagine that Hugo looks exactly the same 🙂

Hurley doesn’t say much, but Hugo doesn’t shut up! He cracks me up because he sounds just like me when he talks! Unfortunately, he’s not as easy for me to handle as Hurley, so I don’t have a good picture of him.

So, that’s the family. I love ’em all, even when I’m cursing the messes they make 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!

Just another day in the life of a Pinterest Addict

Before Pinterest, my internet life consisted of email, news websites, google, PostSecret, Facebook and finding photography websites. I knew that blogs existed, but never really found any that were interesting to me long-term. Not that I put much energy into finding them, because what experience I did have with them was limited to friend’s blogs, and with the exception of one (Goodbye Whoopie Pie) they always seemed to peter-out pretty quick.

(this was me…)

After Pinterest, I feel like I’ve been properly introduced to the world wide web. I’ve found blogs that inspire me to cook, decorate, garden, re-imagine, craft, spend time with my family doing new things and to be a better person in general. Although I’ve always been pretty hands-on when it comes to doing things around the house, it was pretty limited to painting and fixing things that were broken. In the first few days of being on Pinterest, I was just dumbstruck by the amount of ideas that were available. Every image was inspiring, and everytime I clicked on the pic to take me to the website it originated from, I felt like I was aware of a whole new world. So many things are going on around me, and I never even knew it. It’s seriously mind-blowing.

Lucky for me, I found Pinterest while we were shopping for our new house, so I had a chance to put these ideas into action, and every day I find a new idea to inspire me. I hope that you will follow me as I make our house into a home, and something old into something beautiful.

Thanks for reading!
