Desk Do-Over

This week has been busy around here. I painted some chairs…

Took a few pictures…

And got the garage cleaned out and organized. Sorry, no picture of that, it’s just too humiliating to share.
But my favorite project this week is this desk.

I bought this at Faith Farm a few weeks ago, and it has been patiently waiting its turn to be prettified. Other than the discolored gold leaf finish on the top, this Thomasville desk was in great condition. Oh, and the hardware was not pretty.

So, I sanded the gold leaf off, and the wood underneath was not in good condition.

Instead of re-staining, I had to paint it. I primed it and started to spray the rest. Again, I had problems with the finish on the top being splotchy so I waited for it to dry and painted over it with an enamel gloss.

I was going to paint the existing hardware, but it was damaged and crushed. It was just luck that I have a whole bag of new drawer pulls from a bedroom set that came with two sets. It was perfect for this desk!

It’s so pretty now that it doesn’t really fit the style of the office anymore.

So, re-painting the office and making it pretty enough for the desk is my project for next week. Or, I could sell the desk and get something a little less fancy? Decisions, decisions…

Love what you did with this desk. It looks gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the office. I bought a used nightstand for 10 bucks. I spray painted it black and put a glass knob on it., It looks like a million bucks. I used shiny silver items to accessorize.
